My Rowing Journey

Division I Rowing at Northeastern University

I rowed for four years as a Division I athlete at Northeastern University. My journey began with a standout freshman year, culminating in a 4th place finish at the IRA National Championships. Throughout my college career, I trained and competed at the highest collegiate level, balancing early-morning practices and full-time coursework as a committed student-athlete.

I also served as the team’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative. In this role, I acted as the bridge between my teammates and the athletic department—representing athlete voices, supporting well-being initiatives, and collaborating on university-wide athletic programming.

Ambassador – A Most Beautiful Thing Inclusion Fund

I’m proud to be an ambassador for the A Most Beautiful Thing Inclusion Fund, an organization that uses rowing to empower youth, promote racial equity, and expand access to the sport. The fund supports athletes of color through scholarships, equipment, and programming that break down longstanding barriers to entry.

As part of this work, I had the honor of rowing in one of the first all-Black 8+ crews to race at the Head of the Charles Regatta—one of the largest and most prestigious rowing events in the world. Competing on this stage alongside fellow Black athletes was a powerful moment that celebrated visibility, history, and progress in the sport.

Bringing Rowing to Senegal

Rowing does not yet exist in Senegal—but I hope to change that. As someone originally from Dakar, I dream of helping launch the country’s first national rowing program.

Thanks to a generous donation from the international rowing community (with support from World Rowing and affiliated organizations), the first equipment has already been secured. The ultimate goal is to establish a pipeline for Senegalese youth to explore rowing as a pathway to health, education, and international competition.
